From College Drop-out to Dean: Wouldn’t Take Nothing for My Journey.

Featuring Dr. Stephanie Adams, Dean, Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science and  Lars Magnus Ericsson Chair and the President of American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

Abstract

I was introduced to this book, by Maya Angelou, in 1995 which became a mantra during my life’s journey. I will highlight my journey, which began with doubts about my ability to become an engineer; saw me go from two-time college dropout to dean; included stops in industry, academia, consulting, and government; has taken me around the world; and afforded me countless opportunities to serve my profession through national leadership.

During my talk, I will share the trials, tribulations and joys experienced throughout my life and lessons learned. More specifically, I will focus on the importance of goal setting, mentoring, networking and the freedoms I have been afforded, while maintaining a vibrant quality of life.

Please join us as we celebrate the Black heritage. Lunch will be provided.
