I was introduced to this book, by Maya Angelou, in 1995 which
became a mantra during my life’s journey. I will highlight my journey, which
began with doubts about my ability to become an engineer; saw me go from
two-time college dropout to dean; included stops in industry, academia,
consulting, and government; has taken me around the world; and afforded me
countless opportunities to serve my profession through national
During my talk, I will share the trials, tribulations and
joys experienced throughout my life and lessons learned. More specifically, I
will focus on the importance of goal setting, mentoring, networking and the
freedoms I have been afforded, while maintaining a vibrant quality of life.
